Mephistopheles

Exploring character through movement and stage presence.

Kolya Bagdasaryan performs the leading role of Mephistopheles in Scenes from the Life of Doctor Faust, a choreographic production at the Obraztsov Puppet Theatre. This work brings a theatrical dimension to his wider artistic practice, connecting physical expression and character with his ongoing interest in attention and presence.

Working within a choreographed production, Kolya explores how a defined role can remain responsive to the present moment.

Attention to the body and timing, together with listening and a responsive relationship to other performers, connects the physical detail of the character with the shared life of the stage.
